I have known Grammy awards ever since I started understanding music as the biggest worldwide award scheme when it comes to music awards, i stand to be corrected. At a point in time I never thought this awards will come close to Ghana this fast.
Some legends from the highlife genres of music here in Ghana think it is only their kind of music that can put Ghana out musically internationally. We have received bashing from some veteran Ghanaian musicians from the highlife genres saying we are copying the style of other people from different parts of the world and cannot go international with that.
Now, this is where we are Grammy is here and Ghana has been mentioned. This is credited to the newly birthed genre called Afro-Reggae and Dancehall. I will like to congratulate ROCKY DAWUNI for the hardwork and also for making it possible to have Ghana on the lips of the world.
Just a bit of a recap, STONEBWOY BURNITON also recently won the overall best African Act at the BET’s and also Best Reggae and Dancehall artiste in Africa in both AFRIMMA and AFRIMA not forgetting Some other awards won by some other Artiste from the same genre of music.
I think the time has come for the whole of Ghana and corporate Ghana to assist and accept properly the Afro-Reggae and Dancehall genre and make it a house hold one just like our own Hip life’s and the hiplife’s so as to help push it further.
I will also like to use this opportunity to thank all who have one way or the other contributed positively in making the Afro-Reggae Dancehall survive the text of time. It has come to stay.
