The second edition of the Eastern Music Awards has been launched successfully under the theme, “Celebrating Eastern Legends and Stars”. The event saw the crème de la crème of musicians, entertainment and showbiz stakeholders in attendance
The event, organized by Hi5 Empire had the President of MUSIGA, Bice Osei-Kuffour popularly known in showbiz circles as Obour and Richie Mensah, CEO of Lynx Entertainment who took turns to educate musicians on Copyright and Artist Management related issues respectively. This year’s event was launched in Koforidua at Linda Dor Plaza.
The Chief Executive of Hi5 Empire, Lynette Gold said the main aim for the Eastern Music Awards is to help and support Eastern Region musicians and to promote them to corporate Ghana and beyond
She was however quick to state that the challenges facing the awards, as an infant initiative.
“We have our sponsors though, but you may think these sponsors have given us some huge money but I want us to erase from our minds that misconception. We are just trying hard to put the Eastern arts on the map and if you’d want me to kneel and beg for your support, I will gladly do so,” she pleaded

The Chairman for the launch, Ike Appaw-Gyasi, MCE of New Juaben, said there are a lot of talents in the Eastern Region who, by the presence of Obour and Richie Mensah will be encouraged to be part of the Eastern Music Awards
He further added that,
“…Arts and Culture is the catalyst for growth in every country all over the world. If we make a mistake of not promoting the music industry, then the nation has no future”

In attendance at the launch was Owoahene K. Acheampong, President of the Presenters Association of The Eastern Region – PATER, Peter Marfo (President of the Eastern Region MUSIGA) among radio presenters, djs, bloggers and other industry players. Some musicians who were also present to perform are Prophet Peter Akunor, Koo Kyei, Nuru Shaba, Nayo, Amazyn Gee, Fada Garza, and Blaq Syrup
The MC for the launch was Dr. Prekese, who doubles as the Drive Time Host on Bryt Fm and Programs Head for Joy Daddy Multimedia
Nominations are opened from September 22 to October 22 and after which voting will commence from October 27 to December 05. Voting will, however, be based on 60% Public votes and 40% Board decision. A Nominee’s Jam will be on November 10, 2018
