In a recent interview with Ghanandwom, Kofi Rana, born Kofi Selasi Ocloo, a former member of the defunct Ghanaian music group RANA, has confirmed his sexuality, revealing that he is bisexual. This comes after years of speculation and accusations from the public, which he has finally addressed.

This has sparked mixed reactions, with some Ghanaians expressing shock and disappointment, while others have shown support and solidarity. His decision to speak out has also highlighted the ongoing debate about LGBTQ+ rights in Ghana, with Kofi Rana expressing his support for passages of laws that will protect the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. He argues that, what two consenting adults choose to do in their bedrooms is none of anyone’s business and has spoken vehemently against the “hate bill” against LGBTQ+ people passed by Ghana’s parliament in February,2024.

Kofi Rana’s courage in sharing his truth has also shed light on the fact that he is not alone in his journey as his friend Kobi Rana is also tagged as a gay. Kofi Rana mentions that,”no one seizes being a human being when he or she is queer” and that all should be allowed to live freely.

As the conversation around LGBTQ+ rights is on-going in Ghana, Kofi Rana’s bravery serves as a reminder. His story is a testament to the power of living authentically and embracing one’s true identity, and his support for LGBTQ+ rights is a step towards creating a more inclusive and accepting society.

Kofi Rana hints of making a return into the music industry after the long break. He intends to come as a solo artist and has a single almost done and it’s to be released soon. He insists that working in a group is very difficult but he’s learnt a lot to grow into who he is now.
