The Ghanaian entertainment space has a new festival and it is called Wildaland. Like the name goes, it is a festival that is wild – literally wild!

It was a two day event that took place at the Shai Hills Forest Reserves, and it was refreshing to see the entertainment being taken out of the already choked Accra.

I wasn’t meant to attend the event, in fact I didn’t plan to, I was supposed to attend another event at the forecourt of the State House, but as faith will have it, an opportunity opened up for me and my people to jam at Wildaland.

Firstly, I had to join the Bus from the Accra Mall, to the Shai Hills. The journey took close to three hours. Almost an hour and thirty minutes waiting for the Bus to get full and another one hour thirty minutes for us to reach our destination.

The first thing that caught my eye was the stage – it was huge! That was when I realized I was ready to jam. Despite getting there around 6, the organizers were still having their sound checks, so I decided to take a tour at the market area, as we were hungry.

After a couple of hours eating, and chit chatting, the band began to play, followed by Bull Haus Entertainment’s new act Vanilla.

We finally decided to get to the stage when Yaw Tog jumped on stage and that was close to midnight.

Thumbs up to the MCs Mensah Junior and Kojo Manuel, despite some technical challenges the rode the waves to give us a great show.

Special mention to DJ Aroma, the guy knows how to rock the crowd and we enjoyed every moment of his set.

My best performers will be Kwabena Kwabena, Kuami Eugene and KiDi, I also enjoyed Stonebwoy from afar as I was at the market place, when he was on stage.

The night saw other performances from Wendy Shay, Gyakie, Lojay, Oxlade, Adekunle Gold, and Davido.

In as much as the show dragged and I got tired at a point, I think Wildaland is here to stay. The experience of jamming in the wild is definitely one to put on your calendar every year.

They need to improve on certain aspects though. Like following up on their 24-hour non-stop music campaign and also properly activate the jungle party.

All in all I will rate the event a 7 out of 10 and I know they will improve on the maiden edition next year because knowing their lead Baba Sadiq, we can only expect the best of the best.
