ExGlo Foundation Delivers Livelihood Support Programs in Nayire and Enhances Healthcare Resources at Sandema District Hospital

In line with its dedication to support the improvement of lives in some of Ghana’s deprived rural areas, ExGlo Foundation has embarked on a transformative outreach program in the Upper East Region, where it provided essential resources and skills training to the Nayire community and Sandema District Hospital.


The outreach began in Nayire, where the team trained community members on liquid soap production. This skill-based training, requested by the community, aimed to empower participants with the entrepreneurial skills needed to generate additional income and support their families. The session also included basic marketing strategies and profit management to help participants to turn their skills into successful businesses. The training sessions were followed by the distribution of clothing and shoes for approximately two hundred and fifty community members. These donations addressed immediate needs and were warmly received by the Nayire community.

At the Sandema District Hospital, the team donated essential items such as sanitary wear, toiletries, and baby care products to support new mothers and their infants at the maternity ward and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

“We are grateful for the opportunity to support the livelihoods of our people. ExGlo’s commitment is to enhance the quality of life for communities through education, healthcare, and sustainable livelihood projects. We hope that this token of support will have a ripple effect on the socio-economic development of these communities,” said Prof. Patience Aseweh Abor, founder, ExGlo Foundations.

The worship conference , headlined by Jonn Winner, was a powerful , as worshippers gathered to experience the undeniable presence of God in a deeply personal way.

Jonn Winner, along with gospel ministers like Joyce Blessing, Minister Mac Frank, Teddy OT, Lady Naa, Minstrel Glory, and Minister Max Amu, led the congregation into a powerful time of worship. Each moment of the night carried the weight of God’s glory, with hearts turned back to Him in worship and devotion.

The event was a soul-winning event, where people had every reason to lift their hands and worship from the depths of their hearts. The presence of God was felt throughout the night, filling the temple with His heavy glory.

Slated for Friday, September 20, he is expected to serenade guests and nominees at the ceremony which will be held at the plush Volta Serene Hotel in Ho. The show starts from 5:30pm on the night.

Every year, the Ghana Tourism Authority organizes Tourism Awards to celebrate excellence among the tourism value chains; this is aimed at rewarding hard working stakeholders and tourism institutions at the Regional Level.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “celebrating innovation recognizing excellence in ghana’s tourism sector.”

This year the Volta Regional Tourism Awards would Hon. Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister as its Guest Of Honour. Also in attendance will be Mama Bobi III, Queenmother of Bake Clan in Ho Bankoe.

In all, more than 15 Industry Players would receive different categories of awards including Honorary Awards.

Areas to be awarded includes the hospitality and culinary, travel, trade, tourism, tourist sites, tourist influencers/media platforms among others, who have excelled within the year.

Osewus Highlights Struggles Local Businesses Face in Securing Loan Facilities

In an exclusive interview with the Ghanaian blogger Fiifi Adinkra, Erasmus Osei Owusu, popularly known as Osewus, opened up about a couple of frustrating experiences local business owners like him are going through with financial institutions here in Ghana.

 

Osewus, a veteran in Ghana’s entertainment industry with over two decades of experience, has made significant contributions to both the film and music sectors. His journey in the movie industry began in 2003, and since then, he has produced, directed, and distributed over 100 movies. These include popular titles like “Obi de3 Aba” and “Nyame Bekyere,” which have resonated with audiences both locally and internationally. Beyond movies, Osewus has also ventured into music production, working with renowned Ghanaian artists like Daddy Lumba and Okyeame Kwame.

 

However, despite his success, Osewus has encountered significant challenges when trying to secure financial support for his business ventures. In the interview, he expressed his frustration with how banks treat local businesses when it comes to loan acquisition. “You can work with a bank for years, maintaining a cordial relationship with no issues,” he said. “But when it comes time to ask for a loan, the process suddenly becomes a nightmare.”

 

Osewus explained that banks often impose unexpected and burdensome requirements on loan applicants. For instance, they may demand a land lease as collateral, a process that can be both stressful and time-consuming. Additionally, despite having no previous concerns about a business’s location, banks may suddenly require detailed information about the business and residential addresses of the owner when a loan application is submitted.

One of the most frustrating aspects, Osewus noted, is the demand for multiple guarantors. In some cases, banks even require that applicants leave a substantial amount of money most often more than half of the requested loan amoun to be deposited in their accounts before considering the loan. “These practices create unnecessary hurdles for local businesses,” he lamented.

 

Osewus emphasized that these challenges are not just personal but reflect broader systemic issues that hinder the growth of local businesses. He pointed out that while local entrepreneurs struggle to access loans, foreign-owned businesses often enjoy quicker and easier access to financial support. This disparity, he argued, puts local businesses at a disadvantage and can have a detrimental impact on the economy, as profits from foreign-owned enterprises are frequently repatriated to their home countries.

 

The frustrations shared by Osewus highlight the urgent need for reform in Ghana’s banking sector. For local businesses to thrive and contribute meaningfully to the national economy, banks must adopt more supportive and equitable practices. Osewus’s story is a powerful reminder of the challenges that many Ghanaian entrepreneurs face, and it underscores the need for change to ensure that local businesses have the opportunities they need to succeed.

‘Rise’ is Rocky Dawuni’s first dose of new music since the release of his 2023 single ‘Shade Tree’ and 2022’s ‘Neva Bow Down’ featuring Jamaica’s Blvk H3ro which earned Rocky his third GRAMMY nomination for ‘Best Global Music Performance.’ Rocky’s influence continues to be more apparent with his lyrics from ‘Walls Tumblin Down’ being quoted recently by the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Motley during her address to world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and his prominent role alongside Stevie Wonder with a joint concert and press conference during his historic gaining of Ghanaian citizenship in May 2024.

‘Rise’ is the first preview of Rocky Dawuni’s forthcoming new album which will mark his first since his 2020 album ‘Voice of Bunbon, Vol. 1’. The new collection of songs is set to be distributed by AQUARIAN Records through Tuff Gong International, the legendary label known for fostering the international reach of Reggae music. Championing groundbreaking artists such as Bob Marley & The Wailers, The I Threes, Judy Mowatt and Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers.

International music star and humanitarian activist Rocky Dawuni straddles the boundaries between Africa, the Caribbean and the U.S. to create an appealing sound that unites generations and cultures. With an easy-going charisma and reputation as a dedicated champion of social causes, Dawuni’s infectious grooves and dance-inducing anthems have consistently excited fans across the globe. Today, Dawuni is a household name in his native land, and widely considered one of Africa’s most recognized international stars.

In 1998, Dawuni released his second album ‘Crusade’, followed by ‘Awakening’ in 2001, ‘Book of Changes’ in 2005 and ‘Hymns for the Rebel Soul’ in 2010. Dawuni’s sixth album, ‘Branches of the Same Tree’, was released in 2015 by Cumbancha Records and went on to be nominated for a GRAMMY in the ‘Best Reggae Album’ category.

In 2019, Rocky released his 7th studio album entitled ‘Beats of Zion’. Receiving rave reviews from Afropop Worldwide, World Music Central, PopMatters and tastemaker station KCRW.
Dawuni’s eloquence, cultural diplomacy and successful melding of music and activism have led him to become a passionate spokesperson for various global causes. He has joined forces with Product (RED), UNICEF, The Carter Center, and The UN Foundation. He has worked on campaigns focused on Guinea’s worm eradication, environmental issues, women’s health and education, HIV Aids advocacy, peace building and clean water. He is currently a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for the Environment for Africa.

Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture meets FOCAP on the Implementation of Act 1048

On the 29th of August 2024, the Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture met with FOCAP and its allies from the Creative Arts sector.

The ministry was represented by the Honourable Minister Andrews Egyapa Mercer, Deputy Minister Mark Okraku Mantey, outgoing Chief Director John Agbeko- incoming Chief Director, Director of creative arts Devine Owusu Ansah and head of finance while’s FOCAP was fully represented by its executives and Conveners with the President of the Pan. African Ghana, Ras Caleb, and Artists Club President James Amartey.

The Minister welcomed the group and requested the Chief Director to brief the gathering of our first meeting.

FOCAP President Kojo Preko Dankwa then explained why it was very important for the establishment of the Creative Arts Agency, BOARD and EXECUTIVE SECRETARY to be made for the growth of the creative sector.

The Minister Hon. Egyapa after a brief discussion admitted that the law must be implemented as soon as possible so he indeed tasked his chief Director to put in the necessary measures to ensure that the Board, Executive Secretary and especially working staff are put in place to work by the end of September 2024.

The incoming Chief Director also explained that the appointment letters for the Board members will be dispatched but its approval will depend on how fast the council of state works on it especially during this election season, but he assured us of his maximum effort in making it a possibility early.

FOCAP President on behalf of the group thanked the minister and his team for giving us the hearing on this all-important matter and the Minister also thanked FOCAP and its allies for their efforts in making sure the law works.

Obviously, a group picture was taken, but don’t let the smiles deceive you because FOCAP and its allies will continue to push until the legal board and executive secretary is inaugurated.

FOCAP will like to show appreciation to the Accra Police Regional Commander and his able team for their great response and support when we called on them and we know their doors will be opened anytime we knock on them.

Thanks to our allies in the Creative Arts for their support and believe in FOCAP which was indeed the driving force for this battle and finally to the media.

Create more Highlife awards categories to inspire younger ones to pursue genre – Bisa Kdei

Multiple award-winning singer Bisa Kdei has asserted that awards schemes in Ghana should have more Highlife categories so that young musicians will be inspired to pursue the genre.

He made this statement during the Onua Showtime Entertainment programme hosted by Nana Ama McBrown, where stated the need to preserve Highlife music and own it as a people.

According to Bisa Kdei, many artistes are not proud of their Ghanaian music roots and often shy when they are tagged as Highlife artistes.

“We need to have more Highlife categories at our music awards schemes so that the younger generation will be motivated to do more Highlife music.

“We can’t live for others to come and take it. For me I have decided to fight for Highlife music because it has opened many doors for me as a musician.

“Sometimes artistes are shy to be labelled Highlife with the thinking that Highlife is for the old,” he said.

Bisa Kdei also has advocated the need for the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) to digitise their system to enable artistes track their earnings.

When asked about his new song “Boso,” Bisa Kdei said he looks to rekindle the love of Highlife among fans because he believed it represented Ghana’s music cultural heritage.

The new song has been making waves on social media with the official music video expected to be released in coming weeks.
