Kente Edition of Rhythms On Da Runway set for November 30

This year’s Rhythms On Da Runway has been launched with a call on designers to take instruction from the theme, Kente Edition.

Kente is a Ghanaian textile made of hand-woven strips of silk and cotton. With its rich history and timeless beauty, it represents the heritage of Ghana and the spirit of African creativity. It is a symbol of craftsmanship, sustainability, and tradition.

Speaking at the launch held at the Silver Star Towers on Saturday September 21, Producer and Creative Director of Rhythms On Da Runway, Yvonne Ocloo said, for over a decade, this event has been a celebration of the powerful intersection between fashion, culture, and music.”

She stressed that from its humble beginnings, Rhythms on the Runway has evolved into Africa’s largest cultural extravaganza, as recognized by the BBC, and has grown into a platform that amplifies the voices of African designers and artists across the globe.

Yvonne Ocloo further noted that “this year, we take our mission forward by centering the conversation around one of Africa’s most iconic and sustainable fabrics—Kente.”

She urged designers to draw inspiration from the ancient wisdom of Kente weavers to create collections that are groundbreaking and sustainable.

“For this edition, we challenge designers to draw inspiration from the ancient wisdom of our Kente weavers, creating collections that are both groundbreaking and sustainable. Just as Kente weaving has stood the test of time, so too should our commitment to responsible fashion,” She said.

As the country gears up for elections, she charged everyone to learn from the beautiful unity seen in Kente cloth. “Dear Ghana, lets emulate the beautiful unity we see in the Kente cloth! A robust tapestry of beautiful unity,” she said.

According to her, this year’s edition will be an exciting series of activities that celebrate not only the beauty of African fashion but also the immense talent that exists within the continent and beyond.

Touching on activities ahead of the main event, she revealed that “5th October, we will host our casting, bringing together the most talented models ready to light up the runway.”

Additionally, she added that “26th October will see our Industry Night, a special evening of networking and collaboration within the fashion and music industries.”

“14th November will feature the birth of yet another innovation where we take thought leadership at a unique Forum, THE ORANGE Roundtable,” she announced.

Yvonne Ocloo said this conversation with designers, fashion schools, creative minds, will focus on the sustainability of the sector.

All of these would be crowned on November 30, with the Main Event, a night of unforgettable fashion, music, and cultural celebration at the Grand Arena.

Surprisingly, she announced that this year’s event might be the final year to organize an in-person launch event, “As we move forward, embracing technology and digital platforms, we are shifting toward virtual experiences to reach even wider audiences.”

“This decision has been a tough one to take but due to the challenge of accessing the financial support needed to sustain large-scale creative arts projects like Rhythms on the Runway, we must do the needful.

According to her it’s a struggle that so many in the creative industries face, and it compels them to adapt and evolve.

“Despite these challenges, we remain committed to our vision of elevating African art and culture, and we will continue to innovate and push boundaries. However, this shift highlights the urgency for more committed support for creative arts in Africa,” she added.

Sweet Palm Wine will premiere in silver bird cinemas in Accra on October 26. Kwan Pa’s soundtrack with the same title will be released digitally worldwide on October 25.

#TECNOAIEvolution: An Evening That Had It All – From Stars, To Innovation, and Everything In-Between

O Mobile Ghana’s #TECNOAIEvolution and Ecosystem Showcase was an Artificial Intelligence-themed event with a lifestyle lining. Attended by tech influencers, celebrities, media darlings, socialites, and invited guests, the event was a beautiful way to ease into the weekend.

This is a recap of how the evening unfolded.

Events of the night started at 6:30 PM where guests registered for the event at the lobby of the conference hall, while refreshment was being served in the form of wine, fruit juices, water, and snacks. Media personnel took advantage of the relaxed atmosphere to conduct interviews – while some guests were pleasantly surprised to encounter their rarely-seen friends.

By 7:15 PM the conference hall began filling with guests taking their seats, as others spent time at the products display and exhibit, as they waited for what the night had in store for all.

TECNO AI

With AI being the next-level thing in tech now, every major device marketer seems to be slapping the technology in their operating systems, right? But the question to ask is: how much of all that AI is tailored to meet you at the point of your need?

TECNO Mobile Ghana’s #TECNOAIEvolution
Here, TECNO AI did well to develop something the individual can make use of in their day-to-day. These include the following:

Real-Time Translation

If the idea of being insulted in a language you do not understand terrifies you, then, you’d love this AI’s ability to translate phone calls in real time. And that’s not all, as it transcribes speech into text. A real life communication need sorted. How cool is that?

Smart Q&A

This conversational feature of TECNO AI allows users train their AI to help with daily activities such as scheduling appointments, weather forecasts around your schedule. You can even get help with new recipes. Now I know the weather is a threat to my planned weekend party destination.

AI Video Production

Video production, especially for digital marking became just easier. Now, you can write a script, generate a corresponding video, and add subtitles in post-production. And TECNO AI in the palm of your hand does all that.

There’s more to TECNO AI, like Image Editing, AI Artboard, and much more to make your day-to-day easier and productive. But that’s for another day, or for you to discover on your own.

Dynamic 1 AI Robots

The Dynamic 1 AI Robots which can be trained to walk, dance, and carry stuff were nice to watch as they danced to music. My only problem was that they didn’t dance to Ghanaian music.

Stonebwoy was at the event to perform, so I wondered why they weren’t trained to dance to his latest jam, Jejereje?

Speaking of Stonebwoy… man knows how to excite a crowd! Hit after hit, moment after moment, hook after hook, and chorus after chorus… that man delivered like the super star he is.

His performance was the final act of the evening, ensuring that guests left for their homes in good spirits.

Ghanaian disc jockey Lord Barnes, known by his stage name DJ Lord OTB, has won the prestigious ‘DJ of the Year’ title at the 2024 3Music Awards.
This marks another significant achievement for the celebrated DJ, who last year took home the same accolade at the 2023 Guinness Ghana DJ Awards. That victory was historic, as DJ Lord OTB became the first to break DJ Vyrusky’s five-year winning streak in the category.
In 2024, DJ Lord OTB’s hard work once again paid off as he outclassed a competitive field of DJs, including notable names like AD DJ, DJ Faculty, DJ Loft, DJ Mac Tonto, DJ Millzy, DJ Nyce, DJ Sly King, DJ Vyrusky, DJ Wallpaper, Mz Orstin, and TMSKDJ.
Although DJ Lord OTB was not present at the event, his team—comprising Reynolds Quarshie, Seli Baisie, and Nana Gyamfi Prempeh (also known as Zamani)—accepted the award on his behalf.
In a heartfelt message shared on Facebook, DJ Lord OTB expressed his immense gratitude, thanking God, his fans, his team, and the 3Music Awards for the recognition.
“What a way to wrap the month of September. I want to extend my deepest gratitude first of all to God almighty for His favor and divine mercies. I’m actually nothing without Him,” he wrote.
He went on to thank his loyal supporters and team, saying,
“To my fans and the entire OTB Nation fraternity, thank you for your immense support since this journey began a decade ago. To my team, thank you for never giving up on me and for providing the necessary framework to excel. Finally, to the 3Music Awards stakeholders, thank you for recognizing my hard work and dedication with this award. It means a great deal to me, and I am truly honored. God bless you all.”
The award ceremony, held on September 28, 2024, at the Palm Convention Centre inside La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, was a glamorous affair. It celebrated the best in Ghanaian music and thrilled fans with stellar performances from Piesie Esther, Nacee, Akwaboah Jnr, Adina, Kweku Smoke, Mr. Drew, and many others. music and thrilled fans with stellar performances from Piesie Esther, Nacee, Akwaboah Jnr, Adina, Kweku Smoke, Mr. Drew, and many others.
