Having paid their dues, R2Bees tops the VGMA list with seven nominations, categories: Artiste of the year, Hip Life song of the year, Vodafone song of the year, Best Group of the year, Hip Hop song of the year, Hip Life/Hip Hop Artiste of the year, High Life song of the year with Mugeez gaining additional 2 to make it nine for the Best Male Vocal performance and the Song Writer of the year’s categories.
In the King’s (Artiste of the year) category, D Black, VIP, Kwaw Kese, Cwesi Oteng and 4×4 compete with the Walahi boys. Been billed on 95% of last year’s event and still counting, many at the awards launch were convinced to say that the ultimate category will be taken home by the Tema dudes. “This year is R2Bees’s year” were the words everyone kept saying including some musicians who congratulated them for making it into the King’s category.
D-Black and Cwesi Oteng followed with six nominations respectively, five for VIP, four nominations for 4X4 and two for Kwaw Kese. In just two singles ‘Odo and Life (Walahi)’, R2Bees have proven their versatility in touching three genres of music; Hip Life, High Life and Hip Hop music. Having done reggae in a past album, the duo promises to thrill their gospel/Islamic fans with another genre of music this year.
