In anticipation of his highly expected ‘KOK’ Album rumored to be releasing in late October 2017, Koo Ntakra throws in another controversial rap song titled ‘Ask For Me’.
The diminutive Akwapem rapper goes hard on this with his catchy hook asking the big question ‘who is the King’ of Akwapem after recent battles from other quarters claiming to be ‘gods and kings’ of it. Koo Ntakra begins his attack on this joint by starting with a Martin Luther King Jnr statement as intro before throwing what it seem to be shots on what he terms ‘S or P’.

Joyce Blessing
Joyce Blessing

Gospel musician of the moment Joyce Blessing never ceases to amaze her aficionados with her unquenchable strength.

This Wednesday morning on Accra based radio Top 103.1 FM , the Agyebum crooner was seen in a video singing one of the buzzing songs “Boot4Boot” on her latest album christened “Agyebum”.

One could clearly cogitate that the gospel soloist through her singing discursively warned her enemies and haters to keep their eyes off her and focus because she is blessed.

“Some people are after me and are wishing my downfall even though I have not offended them. God lives in heaven and you who is trying to bring me down lives on earth, God shall belittle them all.For those who love and appreciate my works ,God bless them ,and those who criticise me too God Bless them”: She Said.
Joyce Blessing has been in the news several times for her trending ” Agyebum” album and also being attacked in her interview by Deloris Frimpong Manso known popularly as Delay who claims the multifarious award winning gospel musician has been ungrateful to her former manager Kwasi Ernest which she (Joyce Blessing) denied as false.

Ghanaians Have Ignored High Life – Bisa Kdei

Bisa kdei
Bisa kdei

We are made to believe that high-life music is an authentic music genre of Ghanaian music industry, which has been with us all this while but as the saying goes,’music is dynamic’ and every generation and their choices which is also related to music.

Check Out : Kwaw Kese – Envy (Otan Hunu) (Prod By Ronyturnmeup)

There have been many people who have high life music at heart and have spoken against the fall of the music genre in our music industry, but it seems like Ghanaians have now adopted and liked other music genres that do not originate from Ghana than our own high life music which is a big blow to the music industry.

Ghanaian DJ’s and presenters now play music on their various programs without high-life music from Ghana, which is making high-life musicians in Ghana unhappy about it. Due to this act by Ghanaians, it has even opened the door for Nigerian musicians to reign in our music industry with their style of high-life music and have been bold enough to claim’originators’ of the high-life music.

Moving into this problem, one high-life music guru of our time who is putting Ghanaian high-life music on the world map is the award winning high life artiste Ronald Kweku Dei Appiah popularly known as BisaK’dei has come out to add his voice to this unfortunate experience about the same genre; high-life music. In an interview with Flex newspaper, BisaK’dei revealed that it’s very difficult for an A-LIST artiste to make it with high-life music in Ghana without moving from one media house to the other, to do promotions of his or her song which is absurd as far as the Ghanaian industry is concerned.

He continued to say that, Ghanaians seem to concentrate on other music genres more than what is originally theirs, which doesn’t sink with traditions and cultural values and does not the story of Ghana to the world. The ‘Mansa’ and ‘Brother Brother’ hit maker added that, Ghanaians have ignored high-life music because even when general awards nominations come to the public, high-life music is given just two or maybe three categories only while the others get multiple categories which is bad and disrespectful to the music genre.

“This doesn’t encourage other musicians to do high-life. This is because they believe even after their hard work, they will not be awarded which shouldn’t be so and that is killing many talents among the youth. So I am pleading to Ghanaians to love their own which will be enough to motivate others do high life music” he quavered.

Bisak’dei is currently out with his latest banger ‘Sister girl’, a continuation of his hit song ‘Brother brother has urged Ghanaians to pay much attention to high-life music than hip-pop, dancehall, RnB and other music genres that are from telling the history of Ghanaians.

Don’t Compare Me To Sarkodie – D-Black

D-Black
D-Black

Comparing Sarkodie to D Black is a no-brainer because the two acts have different skill set, says the latter.

Black has been on the receiving end of taunts by music enthusiasts and industry personalities for what they say, is his lack of talent.

Check Out : Pauli-B – Lady Don Dada (Remix) (Feat Ebony Reigns)

Speaking to Delay, he admonished that people stay away from the comparison because he is “an entertainer… and not a lyricist”

“I’m not a lyricist. I’m not an MC. Don’t compare me to Sarkodie. I don’t do what they do. Sarkodie is an amazing lyricist. Me, I’m a business man. I’m an entertainer. I make music, you dance to it and I get paid for it and I am happy for that,” explained D Black.

“I’ve gone to the BETs, I’ve won Channel O’s, I’ve been nominated Best Rapper in Africa. The music industry is not about talent any more. It’s also about the material you put out there. It’s also about your brand. It’s also about the music you put out and I am a combination of all these.”

Social Media Has Changed How We Used To Listen To Music And This Is How

Social Media Week
Social Media Week

In the ecosystem of music, the DJ used to be the most powerful person standing between the artistes and the fans. They were the interceding force, blessing artistes that deserved their blessings and passing on the music that passed their standards to the fan. Fun as those times were, the hustle of listening to new music ranged from spending countless hours on the radio set to record, settling for the 6 to 8 months passed songs and worshiping the DJ who received payola before playing a particular tune.

Check Out : Aka Blay – Oshemu Ah Oye (Prod by Peewezel)

However, the Walkman evolved into a Discman, thereby reducing the number of cassettes to a bag of CDs. Before we could reach for a disc, the iPod and MP3 players came and the game changed. The power the DJ had changed from an individual to the internet and that made it easy for everyone to own and share music. By then, technology had attained a status that could evolve and change 10x before we could catch up. Enter 2005 and Facebook knocked Hi5 off the ‘chats’. The year 2006, brought twitter and the conversation continued to switch. By this time, the Ghanaian DJ was still god (don’t get it twisted).
In Ghana, the distribution of music was revolutionalised with the coming of Bigxgh.com, ghanamusic.com, urbanroll.net in successions and then later ghanamotion.com, ghanandowm.com and the countless others that came along. Ghana music started changing direction as more and more people moved online and new artistes found new and innovative ways to share music and grow their fan base. The Skillions and Lynx experimented with social media and Asem, Richie, Jayso, EL, Bra Kevin, Lil Shaker and the team made a statement. Social Media evolved along with conversations to add more features that made SnapTu and Mobidy irrelevant. Now, you could share what you were listening to and have long conversations on who did what and how it came into your playlist. The music heads started emerging and the music online was now curated by a selected class of music lovers who understood and knew where to find new things and get their communities excited. More artistes started paying attention and that shifted the focus from the DJ-radio-play to releasing-online model. ‘You go kill me’ dropped and BBM, twitter and Facebook, the biggest platforms then wouldn’t stop buzzing. The hype created the ecosystem for Azonto that reigned for a year or two.
But the biggest case for social media changing our music listening behavior wouldn’t come until Joey B dropped ‘Tonga’. Released solely on social media, it sent shockwaves through the system. It grew from a likable tune to the hallmark of what music was to become. EL dropped B.A.R, a mixtape that would later become an annual release and that also caught fire resulting in a sold-out concert.

SoundCloud was still weaving a route into Ghanaian hearts after ReverbNation’s stint and Streemio’s inability to make streaming a thing in the Ghanaian music listening circles. As more artistes from Shatta Wale to Sarkodie to Mr Eazi continue to release new music on social media, SoundCloud has become the best place for growing artistes and finding new rhythm. Although people continue to visit websites for download, social media is the place people go for the review, what is hot and how to get them. The place of social media in creating a Ghanaian music culture cannot be underestimated. Hence, understanding the platforms and how it can be used will be taught at Social Media Week, Accra from September 11th to 15th.
