CharterHouse Releases Press Statement On VGMA Incident
Charterhouse, organizers of the annual Ghana music Awards has strongly talked against the scuffle that happened between rivals, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy at the May 18 organized event.
The entity in a press statement GhanaNdwom has received apologized to all stakeholders and sponsors for the misfortune. The release signed by the company’s PR, George Quaye, stated that Charterhouse spent months in planing for the special edition of the awards and never expected such a misfortune to disgrace the 20th edition of the event.
According to the statement, the organization has reported the matter to security agencies in the country to commence investigation.
Shatta Wale and his entourage stormed stage after Stonebwoy was announced winner for the Reggae and Dancehall Artise of the year category at the event which happened at the AICC new Dome on 18th May 2019.

The Management of Charterhouse Productions wishes to apologize unreservedly on its behalf and on behalf of the Board of the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), to the patrons and millions of viewers on television and social media in Ghana and all over the world for the security breach that marred the event in the wee hours of Sunday 19th May, 2019 at the premises of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
We also would like to apologize to our main sponsor, Vodafone as well as other sponsors and partners, media partners Media General, YFM and Multichoice, and other international representatives from BET International, Afro Zons and MTV Base.
Our apologies also go to the Hon. Barbara Oteng Gyasi, Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. George Andah, Deputy Minister for Communications and other very important government officials present at the event.
We apologize to our international visitors, including CEO of Mobo Awards UK, Kanya King CBE representatives from Sony Music, Mr. Ben Oldfield from The Orchard, Phil Phillips, Alison Hinds and other representatives of the Barbados Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, who were present to experience the 20th Anniversary edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
Being a special edition of the annual ceremony, months of planning had gone into giving the world a breath-taking event. Sadly, however, we were unable to give the full experience we had hoped to give as a result of this breach.
As a law abiding corporate citizen, Charterhouse has reported the incidence to the police and have been cooperating with the police to investigate and to ensure that the true facts of what happened would be known and addressed.
Measures will also be taken in consultation and partnership with Security agencies to ensure enhanced security subsequently.
We wish to note that the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards has terms and conditions that guide its conduct and artistes who enter their works for nominations are bound by the terms and conditions. These terms and conditions, which come with punitive measures when flouted, have been designed to protect the scheme and ensure that it is neither impugned nor dragged into any sort of disrepute.
Charterhouse and the board have taken serious exception to the incident that happened at the 20th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards and thus would ensure that the needed sanctions are applied. In the coming week, a press conference would be held to address the incidence at the event, including measures agreed to in consultation with the Board and other affiliates of the scheme.

For the second year in a row, Ghana did not get any nomination in the ‘Best International Act’ category of the annual Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards.
Just like last year, the category has been dominated by artistes from Nigeria and France.
Grabbing nominations in this year’s category are AKA (South Africa), Aya Nakamura (France), Burna Boy (Nigeria), Dave (U.K.), Dosseh (France), Giggs (U.K.) and Mr Eazi (Nigeria).
This is the second time that Ghana has missed out on a nomination, since the creation of that category in 2010.
Since the introduction of the Best International Act category nine years ago, Ghana has received a nomination every year and has gone on to win that award twice – in 2012 and 2015.
Nominated for the Best International Act Award last year were Casper Nyovest (South Africa), Distruction Boyz (South Africa), Davido (Nigeria), Tiwa Savage (Nigeria), Fally Ipupa (DR Congo), Stormzy (UK), J Hus (UK), Booba (France), J Hus (UK), Stefflon Don (UK), and Niska (France).
Davido last year made history by becoming the first international act nominee to receive his award live on stage during the main Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards.
Last year, Hip-hop artiste, Kwesi Arthur gave Ghana something to celebrate when was nominated for ‘Viewers’ Choice: Best New International Act’ category. He lost out to South Africa’s Sjava.
Also in the ‘Best New International Act’ category, Ghana also did not get a nomination.
Headie One (U.K.), Jok’Air (France), Nesly (France), Octavian (U.K.), Sho Madjozi (South Africa), Teni (Nigeria) got nominations in that category.

When is the VGMA 2019 happening?
The ceremony happens tomorrow (Saturday, April 18, 2019). It happened earlier last year but due to the 20th anniversary of the award scheme, the date was pushed forward by the organisers.
Where is the venue for VGMA 2019?
After weeks of deliberation, especially regarding the space of the venue, the organisers settled on the Accra International Conference Centre. It’s located right opposite the Parliament of Ghana.
What time is the VGMA 2019 starting?
The organisers haven’t given the exact time the event will begin but from the look of things, the red-carpet show will start at around 8 pm. It won’t go beyond that time.
How much are the tickets for VGMA 2019?
The Gold ticket (or regular) goes for GHC250 and Platinum ticket goes for GHC400. For Balcony Tables, patrons need to contact 0501288520. Tickets can be purchased through Vodafone Cash (for 10% discount), Charthouse office and Nallem shops at the Mall.
