Maiden Voyage Breaks Mainstream Status Quo With Busting Debut Album: “Key Of Life”

Today’s music market worldwide is replete with rushed singles and albums that mostly only can fetch in fleeting fame, as majority of the artistes rashly step out with the uninformed intent to catch instant popularity — thus they end up making perishable songs that lack the constructive power to build a lasting legacy for them. But Maiden Voyage, a multi-national music trio made up a Nigerian, a Ghanaian and a British, dare belong to the contrary side by considering a power music type that can break the seemingly hard mainstream status quo, earn in great valuble fortunes for them and also render their unique brand highly identifiable with commerciality permanence.

Maiden Voyage is unique and truly innovative and has a sharp music production novelty. Every single song that the trio has made now can last several decades — a sure sign they originally aim to entertain many next generations, hence the group is characterised by a truly lasting market relevance that can immortalize its existence like how the world’s undying great musicians are still being revered today.
Currently readied up in the studio for release any time now is “Key Of Life”, Madien Voyage’s debut album.

“Key Of Life” is a solid 16 track album, one stuffed with multiple genres to purposely serve a large mass of many different music lovers that almost every patient listener of the tracklist has a fair bite off the album, regardless of their core genre preference.

No doubt whoever listens to the tracklist to end will automatically be immersed into the next genres he or she is even less fond of — because every song on the album was psychologically produced with some ear-pleasing drops of hybrid ensemble elements that are capable of compelling a repeat listening one time and again and thus on and on.

Below, a random order of the complete list of the 16 songs packed on “Key Of Life”:
1. I Don’t Wanna Dream

Becca Celebrates 10 Years In Music

Becca
Becca

As humans, most times, we celebrate people only when they are dead and gone, and this phenomenon is prevalent in the entertainment fold.

The narrative of Ghanaians always celebrating the dead must change.

Check Out : Kwesi Taadi x Ajeezay x Eleventeen – Rashida (Nwansima) (Prod. By Samsney)

Persons who truly deserve approbation must always be venerated while they are alive, and as a songstress, Becca, celebrates 10 years in the music industry, it is worthy to celebrate her and her achievements.

The Ghanaian music industry is quite a turbulent one, especially for a female artist and for Becca to not only survive, but also stay relevant in a domain that has an ineffectual system and structures– she needs to be celebrated.

Becca
Becca

Beginning

Ghana and the rest of the world were introduced to this strong, compelling voice in 2007, thanks to the ingenuity of Kiki Banson, who guided Becca to become one of the most appealing brands in Africa.

With her debut single, You Lied To Me – Becca catapulted her brand to higher ground, establishing herself as one of the biggest forces in Ghanaian music and she has parlayed that feat into other successful ventures that have seen her name become household.

Becca’s grand entry into Ghanaian music was just not about that voice, it was also about that tasteful sex appeal, a critical element in her brand, which was expertly engineered by her handler, Kiki – in making her sound and image stick in the minds of music lovers.

The plan was also to make her a consummate artist, to be able to commandeer a live performance and indeed, Becca controls any live performance with such class, finesse, and expertise – making her one of the best live performers in Ghana for the past 10 years.

Rise to critical acclaim & accolades

It takes effort and lots of convincing to get a legend like Hugh Masekela to feature on the album of a relatively unknown artist and even go on tour with her – but Kiki and Becca made it work. Kiki’s EKB Label put in the work and Becca only had to convince the legendary South African musician with her voice.

She is one of a few critically-acclaimed musicians in Ghana, and in the last 10 years of being in the business, she has seen and done it all: sold-out concerts, endorsement deals, a plethora of awards among others.

She established a rescue organization which raised funds to help children affected by HIV/AIDS in Ghana and in 2014, she became a Goodwill Ambassador for UNAIDS.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports unveiled Becca as one of Ghana’s official ambassadors for the 2014 FIFA World Cup – a deal that got her to face a Probing Commission, which was tasked to check perceived wrongs at the Mundial.

Becca’s accolades include a National Youth Achievers Award, several Ghana Music Awards, and 4Syte TV Music Video Awards, Kora Award. In 2013, Becca was ranked 94 on E.tv Ghana’s 2013 List of the 100 Most Influential Personalities in Ghana.

Controversies

As an entertainer or celebrity, if you are not talked about and if you do not make news, then you are nobody, but Becca has been ‘somebody’ in the last 10 years and has had her fair share of controversies.

In 2006, she made the headlines, even when nobody knew her. Her astounding resignation from the most popular music reality show in Ghana at the time, TV3’s ‘Mentor II’, on grounds of her civil rights being infringed upon was groundbreaking.

It was almost the perfect way to announce her entry into the mainstream; hit a strong firm with a legitimate lawsuit and leverage on the opportunity to launch your career – perfect plan!

In 2012, however, Becca was hit by arguably one of the biggest controversies to emerge in the industry in the last 10 years. Her dad openly chastised the artist and her former Manager for trying to stage a marriage between them and the news did run in the media for weeks.

That controversy actually kept Becca out of the limelight for the period the issue persisted and it took some time, counsel and resilience to get her back to her A-game.

International appeal

Becca’s hold on the international market has been overly impressive. No Ghanaian artiste has been able to command such appeal on the international front for 10 straight years.

Since her debut in 2007, she’s collaborated with the likes of Hugh Masekela, 2face Idibia, M.I, Uhuru and Patoranking among many others and has also shared the stage with the likes of Yvonne Chaka Chaka.

For a period where Ghanaian artistes have been unable to command a strong presence on international music channels, Becca has always made it look easy – commanding a sturdy presence on the defunct Channel O, MTVBase, Trace Africa, and Sound City among others.

Her brand transcends the shores of Ghana, as her image and music are well known on the international market.

New projects

Becca is now signed to Zylofon Music on a 3-year contract, where the label would produce, promote and market her music, and already, the label has produced four or so of her music videos.

Under the aegis of the label, Becca is out with her third studio album, ‘Unveiling’ – a 13-track album that features the likes of Bisa KDei, Pato ranking, Kofi Kinaata, Mr. Eazi, and Stonebwoy.

She is said to have announced that, she will organize a tour to the Americans and Europe and climax the rounds with a nationwide concert to commemorate her 10-year stint in the industry.

It is expected that she will also embark on some humanitarian works including the provision of succor for brilliant but needy children in schools in Ghana.

Over the weekend at the Golden Movie Awards singer NanaYaa did not only steal the night with her powerful, dazzling, and thrilling performance on the night but she also gave Nigerian comedian AY a topic to kick off the show as the hot of the show.

The slang – ‘Ghana Jollof’ which repeats most in her version– Super Woman (mad over you cover), became the topic for host and comedian AY as he tried to find out what started this whole Ghana Vs Nigeria Jollof argument on social Media.

Check Out : “I Revived Dancehall In Africa” – Shatta Wale Tells Media In Jamaica

Comedian AY who was stunned by the powerful voice of NanaYaa and her dazzling performance actually focused most of his jokes on the slang ‘Ghana Jollof’ during the entire show.

The prolific singer blew every attendee at the event away with her proving why she is the queen of voice when she performed a jazz version of Runtown’s Mad Over You hit single.

Before performing the popular song, NanaYaa sang her popular rendition of the old hi-life song Serwaa Akoto also a jazz version.

NanaYaa also gave a special remembrance performance to the late Hi-life legend Papa Yankson who passed away last week Friday.

On the night NanaYaa’s performance was described by many attendees at the best for the night.

To many, the 2016 best female vocalist nominee at the VGMAs is indeed the best female singer and performer who is back to take her crown.

NanaYaa is set to release a new single off her debut EP this August.

“I Revived Dancehall In Africa” – Shatta Wale Tells Media In Jamaica

Shatta Wale
Shatta Wale

Ghanaian dancehall crooner Charles Nii Armah Mensah known by stage name Shattawale has unveiled to the media in Jamaica that he actually revived dancehall in Africa.

The Shatta Movement front liner who is currently in Jamaica recording songs with top Jamaican stars   told Kingston based radio Newstalk93 on Thursday on the nightly fix show that the genres dancehall and reggae were least encapsulated in Africa some years back. He said dancehall and reggae musicians were seen as rude, violent and unimportant and added that  hardly will you see reggae or dancehall musicians break through.

Check Out : I’ve Not Slept With Shatta Wale, We Will Only Have S3x If… – Sista Afia

Shattawale elucidated that especially in Ghana ,the  populates could not comprehend what dancehall music was  and hence had to lighten the lyrics of his songs by blending our local dialects with the Jamaican patois to make the songs appealing to Ghanaians.

Charles told the show DJ Burn that his talent , hustle and hardwork motivated other dancehall artistes to also follow his steps. He said the likes of  BET Award winning dancehall singer Stonebwoy used to come to him to learn because of his great potentials and motivation.

The Ayoo hitmaker Shattawale started music at an early stage with the name Bandana ,unleashed some popular songs like Moko Ho featuring Tinny , Telephone Number, Anastasia, and more   and later came back “hard” after 10 years  as Shattawale with his breakthrough song dubbed Dancehall King in 2012 which bagged him dozens of awards.
