VGMA ‘New Artiste of the Year’, Fancy Gadam born as Mujahid Ahmed Bello has revealed Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie helped him to push his music to an exceptional level in the country.
Speaking to host KMJ on ‘Daybreak Hitz’ on Accra based Hitz FM the ‘Rap King of the North’ disclosed it wasn’t easy making his music, the ‘Pain killer’ a hit one but his management made all efforts to make it hit.
He further added that, it is a blessing from God but not his mere strength since it’s never easy to become a star in this country.
“I have seen changes. The song with Sarkodie has done a lot for me. Frankly speaking, it was hard to work with him. He helped me a lot; it’s not about the charges. He helped me to grow…,” he said.
When asked why he made the collaboration with Sarkodie, he said he had locked the whole Northern Region with regards to music hence he believed it was time to do same in the southern part of the country and Sarkodie was the best musician to work with.
According to Fancy Gadam, even though most of the fans don’t understand the lyrics in his songs, he believes his stage performances and deliveries together with his entertaining concepts are ‘wild’ to arrest the attention of his fans.
With this, he believes it is not only the lyrics of songs that can shoot an artiste to fame.
“It’s a blessing from God. It is not by my strength. Now I have locked the whole Northern region. I want to get the airplay in the southern sector and the media should please look at me.
I have been seeking for recognition for about 5 years now, it has not been easy shooting up in the industry. My fans have real love for me and I love them.
“Even if you don’t understand what I say in my music, I perform well and the delivery is good. Besides the skills my concepts are wild…” he made this revelationds on Hitz FM.
Ghana Rap Sofuo, Obrafuor, the Executioner has cautioned fast rising artist DaGaow to be careful and wary of wolves in sheep’s clothing situation that is prevailing in the Ghanaian music industry.
Obrafuor, who had a crunch meeting with DaGaow on Thursday at the Efya Beach Hotel in Accra, says the artist has the right to air his opinion about the disunity in the Ghanaian music industry.
He, however, explained that not every artist will tolerate his views and opinions.
Endorsing DaGaow as a potential star to put the Ghanaian music industry on the international front, he advised the artist to avoid profane lyrics that others use, dedicate lots of time, energy into his music and to make Ghana proud.
What you didn’t know about DaGaow
The songwriter, who is also a hip-pop artiste, until recently was known as Odumja- a stage name that became popular from his schooldays at the Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO), a premier second-cycle institution in Ghana’s Northern Region where his music dream gained foothold.
He says he is currently undergoing a re-branding and has chosen “DaGaow” as his showbiz name to depict his “identity as a descendant of the Dagara people who rebelled against autocratic rule in the olden days”.
“In short the name implies a revolt against all forms of failure in this life,” he reveals.
His latest song, Checkpoint, is the first he has released so far among the tracks he is set to launch in 2017.
“Checkpoint is an Afro-pop love song, well-crafted from lyrics, chorus, hooks and beat resulting in a harmonic pattern that gives the song a striking dance tune. Production credit goes to one of Ghana’s finest sound engineers, Roni Turn Me Up. The video of the song, which is also going to be released this year, is directed by famous music video director, Prince Dovlo,” said DaGaow who is also scheduled to tour the UK (where he is partly based) soon to shoot another music video.
He added: “The song articulates the need for young people to desire to succeed in life. It speaks about giving your dreams and aspirations the best shot possible. The melodious afro-pop song seeks to encourage young people not to listen to voices that discourage them from achieving their dreams. That song is so dear to my heart and so it took me two months to finish recording and mastering it. One unique thing about this song is that, I didn’t just write it to sing it but it is a package of an experience I have had myself. I defied all odds and dedicated everything- time, effort and money- into the making of that particular song and I am anticipating it will storm the Ghanaian music scene”.
Rapper to launch anti-drug abuse concert tour
The rapper, who began his music life way back at the 1st Signal Junior High, Burma Camp, Accra, says he taps inspiration from Ghanaian hiplife artistes Okomfo Kwadee, 2pac and Nas. He hopes to reach the youth everywhere through music and charitable gigs, to inform and educate them about such social problems as domestic violence and drug abuse.
Songs released so far by DaGaow include: “Kaba” 2000, “Follow me” 2005, “Let them say” in 2008, “Look Sharp” (2010), “Black Panther (2011) and Akesiemu which featured Dobble in 2012. The rapper’s song “Ma world” was one of the hit songs of the Volcano Eruption compilation produced by Sasco and Hilix music production in 2009.
“I think my performance at the British Art Show in the UK was my all-time best. That show brought out the best in me as I had to free style creatively by blending the various artists and their works and still made sure that the fans were on their feet. Most importantly it was in line with my music principles of educating and informing people,” he recalls in his memoirs.
His new singles (including Checkpoint) are being promoted in Ghana and the UK amid plans to embark on a nationwide tour of Ghana by the close of 2017.

Dancehall new comer Xhila Roy Aka THE GORILLA has in recent times aimed some jabs at BET Award Winner Stonebwoy. News circulating around has it that, Roy dissed Stonebwoy in his new song which the public have described as an attempt to get famous. Others have it that it’s a counteraction song to the Award winning Dancehall Artiste.
According to Xhila Roy, he is not seeking attention from him (Stonebwoy).
“I grew up with him. We have been friends from our boyhood. When he started this music I was one of those who motivated him to continue chasing the dream. At a point in the struggling phase of his music I found myself dancing for him more than once at shows he was invited to. When he was still rising up I used my radio time (Focus94.3 FM) talking about his music just to make sure he achieved his dream. To add to this I can prove with audio recordings of interviews I had with him. After the sacrifice, all he could pay me back with was to call me on phone to deceive me. In January 2016, he told me via phone he is in love with my song #LikeSolomon which was by then enjoying airplay on radio. He instructed me to send him an audio of the song with space so he could add his voice. I paid the producer to prepare the audio file for the remix and quickly sent to him via mail. After the file was sent he never said a thing and also refused to reply my text on the said song. It’s been a year and six months now since he told me that lie. I don’t understand why he played on my intelligence just to make me look foolish.” Roy said.
When quizzed on what he will do next if he doesn’t get a tangible explanation from the Bhim president this is what he said.
“This is strictly a musical affair. I know what to do but I won’t disclose it now. Later you will understand this”.
Roy’s new song YOUR SHAME, was premiered on Lagazee International Sound show(Hits 103.9 FM) and has since been under serious backlash by the Bhim fans.
