Music Review: Halle Halle by Ennwai

Introduction: The perception of gospel music being exclusive to just a certain ‘church-people’ is gradually getting displaced by some artistes.

Former member of music duo Dobble, Ennwai, has released a song that praises God. It is a beautiful song you would love to listen to.

Instrumentation: The song, titled ‘Halle Halle’ is in a highlife vein and is sung in Key B Flat Major. The sound quality is good. The production was done by, Itz CJ, one of the fastest growing music producers in Ghana.

Song arrangement and style: ‘Halle Halle’ starts with an intro that has strings and some piano works. He comes in to sing in Pidgin English and Twi telling how God has changed him from bad to good. After that, comes the chorus again. There is an interlude before the second verse. Another chorus comes and them the songs slips into instrumentation till fade.

He also employs rhymes so much in his verses; the type of rhyme that is typical of rap.

Vocals: Ennwai sings in his usual ‘Dobble’ style. He may not be counted among the top vocalists in Ghana but he did justice to the song with his vocal ability. The harmonies also come out well and make the song so soothing to the ears.

Content: He talks about God taking him from the slums and making him better than before. He says because of God’s goodness, he will sing ‘Hallelujah’ to his name. It has a chorus that can easily be sung along; that is the trick to having a hit song. Simple and catchy choruses travel faster.

Morale: The song affirms the beliefs of the religious person. It tells one to be thankful to their God for they good they have done for them. In Christianity that is one of the main purposes of worship. It is believed that adoring and thanking God makes Him open more doors of blessings for you.

Is ‘Halle Halle’ a gospel song?: What is gospel or not has over the years been limited to whether or not a particular song can be performed at church or has been composed by a ‘church-person.’

‘Halle Halle’ is a real gospel song that is done in a style that is more marketable to the contemporary gospel lover.

It may not be performed in church because of the Ghanaian hypocrisy but I have always said, what a song is, made up of is more important than what it is called.

Conclusion: I rate ‘Halle Halle’ song 76%.

eShun – Simple As ABC (Feat Cabum) (Prod By PossiGee)

The perfect love story – The son of a legend, Cabum da Chedeshi and Africa’s Next Biggest Legend in the making, eShun stir up all kinds of emotions as they say those sweet three words “I love you” in public and don’t even care who’s listening!
Would you be disappointed if we told you it’s a song we’ve been talking about all along? If you would, then you either haven’t heard it or you have fallen in love with the song so much you wish the fantasy is actually a reality.
Unsung Artiste of the Year nominee at the VGMAs, eShun and rapper Cabum team up perfectly to create arguably the most beautiful love song of all – Simple As ABC.
The world may have a secret laboratory for creating music and eShun may have found it! It’s not just the lovely lyrics, the funky grove, the indigenous rhythm and the originality, but that funny feeling that the world may have a secret laboratory for creating music.
eShun’s latest single is a classic in the truest sense of the word and is proof that music is a living organism. It’s a combination of the perfect fusion of several opposites, combining music’s art of songwriting and the science of beat making.
There is a blend of urban substance and indigenous culture embedded within the rhythm, clarity in diction and message. The song composed by Senyo and eShun in English interspersed with few lines of Ga and Ewe with Cabum hitting the perfect rap verse to complement the song in Twi.
And why does it feel Afropop, indigenous, Highlife, Hiplife and R&B at the same time? Because technically it is. One of the most difficult rabbit in the hat moves, for most artistes in the industry but eShun. It’s easy to sing, seduces you to the dancefloor and appeals to all backgrounds and divisions of the music world. This is what makes it even the more remarkable!
And if you want to learn to sing it, it’s as simple as ABC… I LOVE YOU. And yes, we love it because it brings out the love in all of us, hypnotizing us to love everything around us. First, we love the song, then we love our spouse all over again, then we love our soulmates, then malaria… Well, probably not.
If you haven’t heard it yet, download eShun’s latest single ‘Simple As ABC’ and fall in love too. Have you watched the Video though?

After being nominated in the 2017 BET Awards in the highly controversial “Best International Act: Africa Category”, Afrobeats artiste Mr. Eazi, known in real life as Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade has urged his fans preaching him to higher heights to calm down since he believes the international hype is just the ‘beginning’ of his music career.

The ‘Skin Tight’ hit singer will be competing with Wizkid (Nigeria), Davido (Nigeria), Tekno (Nigeria), AKA (South Africa), Nasty C (South Africa), Stonebwoy (Ghana) and Babes Wodumo (South Africa) for the BET award this year.

Check Out : Wisa’s Dj Missing In Court

Speaking on Hitz FM’s Morning Show hosted by KMJ, he disclosed he still sees himself as an upcoming artist regardless the BET nomination because he has so many dreams to accomplish in the music world.

“I haven’t started anything. I’m just an upcoming artist and there is nothing accomplished yet. With God we will get there. I didn’t see the nomination coming. My pride and happiness is to do music for my fans. I want to sing a song that people can relate to and that’s why I love going to the studios all the time. I think about nothing but music…” he said.

When asked by the host if he is keen to grab the award for himself as the ‘Best International Act in Africa’ for the year 2017, he said, “I don’t see any challenge. It’s all about the vibes. It’s the experience. I’m not afraid. I’m addicted to challenging myself… I really don’t know if I’m going win…” he said.

The Afro pop artist added that, the BET award is basically for his team if he should win as such it is only a reminder to showcase the hard work of himself and those in his camp.

“The BET is a reminder to big up your team and show how well you’re working hard. I’m mostly happy when I see tweets about my music lifting the spirit of people. Everyone can win an award. We can create it to award ourselves. There are more important things” he noted.

The sensational Afrobeats singer further urged his fans to fight through trials and tribulations that come along in life. He reiterated, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and to be a better person”.

“It’s the work of God that is uplifting me…” he maintained.

VGMA Organisers couldn’t pay my $30,000 performance fee – Mr Eazi

Mr Eazi
Mr Eazi

Many tipped Nigerian-born Afrobeat artiste, Mr Eazi to win the African Artiste of the Year at this year’s Ghana Music Awards, but that was not to be.

Considering the work he had done over the past year, other nominees, Patoranking, Runtown, Tekno, Nathaniel Bassey, were no match for him but Runtown, to the disappointment of many, picked up the award.

Check Out : Jayso – Have A Party (Feat. Sarkodie & Raquel) (Official Video)

As it has become the norm lately, the African artiste who shows up at the awards, ends up winning the African Artiste of the Year. It was, therefore, no surprise, when Runtown arrived in Ghana and performed at the awards on April 8, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

Reacting to issue for the first time in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM with KMJ, Mr Eazi, born Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade, said while he does know the criteria for choosing winners, he did not show up in Ghana because organisers, Charterhouse could not pay his performance fee.

“I don’t know the reason why I didn’t get the award. I want to believe that the organisers know the reason why I didn’t get the award maybe by their criteria but what I know is there was a request to be booked for that performance and my manager gave them the price and we even gave them a cheap price [$30,000] for the show and we didn’t hear from them anymore,” the ‘Skin Tight’ hit singer revealed.

He further disclosed that, “you have to understand on the day of the awards, I was performing in DC (Washington DC). I earned $35,000 performing in the University of Maryland on that night. So, it was a business decision but perhaps if they had made further negotiations, you know, me I love Ghana…”

In the video below, Mr Eazi also recounted a scuffle at the backstage of the 2016 edition of the awards, where he was prevented from joining Wizkid on stage.

He reveals that he had to force his way to join Wizkid on stage.

Wisa’s Dj Missing In Court

Wisa

State Prosecutors in the case in which hiplife artiste, Eugene Ashie affectionately called Wisa is standing trial for indecent exposure are finding it difficult to produce the Disk Jokey (DJ) who was on the show when the incident happened to appear in court.

The DJ was expected to be the third prosecution witness after the investigator and Jessica Opare Saforo, the programmes Manager at Citi FM had all given evidence.

Check Out : Obrafour – Aseda (Official Video)

ASP Judith B. Asante, the Prosecutor told the court that they were having some difficulties in producing the witness and efforts to get him to come to court had proven futile.

While adjourning the case, the Accra Circuit Court presided over by Her Honour, Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku urged the prosecution to ensure that the witness was in court.

The young musician of Ekikimi fame was in court after being absent during previous sittings. The court adjourned the case to June 14 by which time the DJ who was behind the console when the accused person exposed his manhood would have been produced to give evidence.

Wisa has been charged with indecent exposure for allegedly exposing his manhood on stage while performing at Citi FM’s Decema 2 Rememba on December 24, 2015.

His lawyer, Mr Avenogbor at the last adjourned date told the court that his client was not feeling well because of some medical issues and prayed the the court to rescind its warrant for the arrest of Wisa which was consequently granted.
