His high-profile presence on social media, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Twitter ensure Stonebwoy’s close connection with fans in every corner of the globe.

ABOUT STONEBWOY:
Stonebwoy Burniton (aka Livingstone Etse Satekla) is a Ghanaian Afro pop, dancehall and reggae artiste who was born on March 5, 1988, the fourth of seven siblings in a family from Ashaiman, a suburb of Accra, in the Volta Region. By grade school, he had realized his passion for creative arts, scripting and acting in the Drama Club, and putting words together rhythmically. Thus began a lifelong devotion to singing both songs that he has written and composed, as well as those by artists who have influenced him.

In his first year of high school, Stonebwoy met up with Doctor Duncan, a radio DJ/Presenter who at the time was the host of KASAHARI, a real time rap battle program that introduced Sakordie, Dr. Cryme, and many other relevant rappers in Ghana. “I battled my way out every weekend without defeat to date,” Stonebwoy recalls. “Music chose me, I didn’t choose music.” His first radio hit, “Makuma (My Heart)” was released during his second year of high school, and other tracks soon followed. In his third year, having amassed a flaming underground popularity, he released “Empress,” a hit that sustained him for years after leaving high school in 2007.

Things happened quickly, as Stonebwoy began working with S24 studios in 2008. He later joined Samini (a revered Ghanaian dancehall artist) and his High Grade Family and remained there until 2012. That year, Stonebwoy formed his own record label, Burniton Music Group (BMG), putting into practice all he had seen and learned. He worked day and night with his team to ensure that they achieved the best, starting with his debut Grade 1 Album (2012). It was followed by Necessary Evil (2014); Epistles Of Mama (2017), and Anloga Junction (2020).

At the same time, branding began to play a very important role within the BMG group, not just Stonebwoy’s globally popular catchphrase – “BHIM!!!!!‟ (Bless His Imperial Majesty) – but also via organic partnerships with Tommy Hilfiger (in 2017); and as the second ever brand ambassador for Samsung Ghana (in 2019).

Along the way, there were collaborations with international acts from Africa, UK, and Jamaica, among them Sean Paul, Trey Songz, Kranium, Samini, Obrafour, R2Bees, Patoranking, and Burna Boy to name a few. Stonebwoy’s Beenie Man collabo, “Shuga” saw a record-breaking first week views of 500,000+ on YouTube. On top of this is Stonebwoy’s reputation for electrifying and energetic performances onstage. He has attracted a worldwide fan base, having toured in the UK, USA, Australia, Italy, Amsterdam and many more countries, sharing the bill with acts ranging from Miss Lauryn Hill to MHD, Morgan Heritage, Wizkid, and more.

In an industry flooded with people trying to establish their identity, Stonebwoy stands as one unique artiste with a sense of direction and purpose. He recorded his first track in a family studio over a decade ago. Thence, Stonebwoy has never looked back.

Rising Ghanaian afro-fusion artist Gyakie has teamed up with North London’s rap riser JBEE with newest single ‘Scar’.

‘Scar’ is a powerful and emotionally charged R&B cut laced with Hip-Hop brought to life by Gyakie’s fierce flow over a Sosa-crafted drill beat featuring JBEE. Gyakie tells the story of a love gone wrong from both sides – hers representing pain, and his centering on doubts and insecurities. ‘Scar’ features ominous production underscored by heavy 808s with both artists providing hard-hitting lyrics juxtaposed by softer melodies showcased throughout JBEE’s verse.

The juxtaposition on ‘Scar’ continues into the visuals which see Gyakie and JBEE both telling their sides of the love story before coming together in the final scenes with red tones used throughout, representing the love and pain in the story that features throughout ‘Scar’ directed by Craig Capone who has worked with artists such as Headie One, Sarkodie, Chip and Ms Banks on their visuals as well as Romara Blake who is known for her work with Eva Lazarus.

Gyakie has been rising through the ranks since bursting onto the scene with her debut single ‘Love is Pretty’ in 2019. Speaking on the release JBEE said “I was in Ghana for New Year, even though it was the holiday season when Gyakie calls, you answer! We linked up in Ghana and ‘Scar’ was born. Even though I am London born and raised, I’m Ghanaian myself and I’m so happy we got to collaborate and make this track. I hope the fans love this one seeing two worlds collide!”

Full Tracklisting revealed for Star-Studded Afro-Fusion Album The Homeland, Bridging Africa & Jamaica, Out April 21

Bambulele
Bambulele

Today, Morgan Heritage, the 3x GRAMMY award-winning band, share “Bambulele,” the latest single and releases the full tracklisting for their forthcoming album The Homeland, out April 21. Inspired by GBV (Gender Based Violence) in South Africa, 12-year old Hector Pieterson and the Soweto Uprising in 1976 – where Black students protested the enforcement of teaching their entire curriculum in Afrikaans, which was mostly spoken by the white population, instead of their native languages. “Bambulele” is a traditional Mbube (a form of Zulu choral hymns) song of mourning. During the protest on June 15th 1976, Pieterson was shot and killed by the police, who opened fire on the students. “Bambulele for us is a call to Africans at home and abroad to unite for the preservation of Mama Africa,” says Morgan Heritage. “Because we can’t allow her to suffer any longer at the hands of wrongdoers.

Set as the opening track to The Homeland, Morgan Heritage is joined by the Brothers & Sisters Art Organization, a youth group/choir based in Cape Town. They sing the song to comfort themselves, their family, and friends because of the rising GBV (Gender Based Violence) victims across South Africa. Their performance takes the song to an etheric-ancestral level that evokes a soulfulness the listener did not know they had. With each note, the soloist shares the guttural pain experienced in the lyrics, which loosely translates to “They killed my mother / they killed my mother / who will I be left with in this world? / Who will I be left with? / They killed my mother, but she didn’t do anything to them.” Bambulele” is chilling, fervent, and lineal, delivering an opening track that frames the record as the must hear World Music project of 2023.

Stream “Bambulele” ft Brothers & Sisters Art Organization HERE

Next week (April 21), Morgan Heritage will release The Homeland, a star-studded 21-track collection marking a new era for the group as they expand their global reach from the Caribbean to the African Continent and beyond with guest contributions from Popcaan, Youssou N’Dour, Shaggy, Beenie Man, Shatta Wale, Mádé Kuti, and more. This album is a project of rebirth for the Morgan brothers, built upon a lineage that has lasted decades and one that will continue to forge forward. Musically, they take the listener on a journey that not only reminds them of days past, but the future ahead. Take a listen to the albums “infectiously upbeat” lead single “Who Deh Like U” feat Bounty Killer, Cham & Stonebwoy, which debuted at #1 on the US iTunes Afro-Beat chart.
