Morgan Heritage is a 3-time Grammy award-winning reggae band currently comprising the Trinity; Peetah Morgan, Gramps Morgan, and Mr. Mojo Morgan. They are children of the late reggae great and Father of A Nation, the Hon. Ras Denroy Morgan. Morgan Heritage is slated to release their single “Just A Number” on January 27 produced by Kareem “Remus” Burrell.

“Morgan Heritage and the XTM family have always had a connection. My dad Philip “Fatis” Burrell produced tracks for Morgan Heritage as well as their younger siblings LMS. I’m privileged to have produced this track “Just A Number” and I am really excited for its release” says Kareem ‘Remus’ Burrell.

“Just A Number” is an awareness anthem, which sparks the conversation around a much-needed topic surrounding the unfortunate reality of how one can jeopardize their legacy or financial accomplishments one has worked so hard to achieve because of something their person views or opinions. The official music video will also premiere on January 27th via the group’s YouTube channel. Subscribe here to see it first. https://youtube.com/@MorganHeritageTv

“Just A Number was inspired by historic and current figures in the entertainment industry. The song speaks directly to upcoming sports, film, tv, and music entertainers and anyone pursuing a professional career. We want to make them aware that they should not work hard and sacrifice all their lives to build a career and potentially lose everything overnight because of something you do or say. As students of history, we learned about brutal figures, and we’d like to start a conversation about today’s newsmakers and ensure the youths don’t make the same mistakes” says Morgan Heritage

Along with the release of their new single, Morgan Heritage is asking their fans input on which artwork they should use for their newest single “Just A Number” which will be released on Jan 27th. As an incentive, everyone who votes will be placed into a drawing to win, free tickets to a show and/or merchandise bundle.

Introducing Reggae/Dancehall Sensation Aklerh

Budding Ghanaian artist Zebulun Aklerh Ocansey, who goes by the stage, Aklerh, is one of the most-talented reggae and dancehall musicians in the country now.

Even though Aklerh has reggae and dancehall as her favourite genre of music, she delivers effortlessly when she does Afrobeats as well.

Aklerh, who is also known as the Authentic Voice of Labadi, was born in 1991. Her father is the legendary media icon and first chairman of the Rastafari Continental Council (R.C.C.), Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, aka Daddy Bosco, which takes away the element of surprise when it comes to why she has decided to walk the path of music.

Aklerh attended Hannah School Complex and Calvary International School all located in Madina a suburb of Accra before she finally got into St. John’s Grammar School for her secondary school education and the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) for her diploma.

The talented young musician has been doing music as an underground act for close to a decade now, however, she decided to focus on it as a profession back in 2020, and since she dropped her first single in 2021, Aklerh has made a lot of positive waves in the music scene.

The few songs Aklerh has released so far have shown that she is unique among her peers, as she has set the pace by giving the already-established stars a run for their money.

During one of her first major performances at the birthday party of Kojo Kombolo in 2021, she revealed that she ventured into music because she got so angry about an issue and, at the time, music was the only way she could best express herself, which is why she started doing it.

But as things stand, it appears things have been good to her in music, which is why she has decided to stick to the profession.

Aklerh came into the limelight when she released her single titled “Born Rich,” which became the favourite of a lot of TikTokers and other social media users in Ghana. The song, which is hosted by DJ Gashie, is still doing very well on Audiomack.

Currently, Aklerh has a new song out, which she titles “Only You.” The song has the potential to become one of the hottest tunes in 2023 because it is well-composed and the production is equally top-notch.

She has also indicated that she has the intention to work with anyone as she prepares to release her first EP very soon.

AWWYAS Introduces its new act, Tofamba

Victoria Tafamba is a Ghanaian singer and rapper who was born in Kpandai in the Northern region on the 7th of March, 2004. She goes by the stage name Tofamba, which means ‘Special or Worthy’ in Basare, a language of the people of Kpandai. Her range of music spans the genres of hip hop, rap, hip life, afrobeat and dancehall. A few months after she was born, Tofamba returned with her family to Haatso in Accra, where she spent the next six years growing up with her siblings.

Tofamba’s education began at Brilliant Academy in Haatso. During a two year stay with her aunt in Obuasi, Tofamba attended a Methodist School. When she returned to Accra, her family had relocated to Kasoa Kaemebr3. Tofamba’s mother enrolled her at Omega School, but the pressure of seeing five children through education in a private school proved too much for a single mother; as a result, Tofamba’s mother had to move her children into a Presbyterian Government School at Kasoa Obom.

It was at this school Tofamba discovered her talent for playing football. In 2004, with the help of her class teacher, Tofamba secured a scholarship into Continental African Soccer Academy School (CASAS). The lessons taught at the academy helped polish her talent and she soon got upgraded to Praise Academy in Kasoa. By 2017, Tofamba was playing in football tournaments for the team, CASAS. With a path in football being paved, her interest in education was overshadowed and sunk to an all-time low.

When football camp went on vacation, Tofamba found out her family had moved back to Haatso; she stayed with her family there. Tofamba’s interest in music was piqued when she attended the ‘Tinny and Friends’ Homowo show, where a freestyle floor was opened for people who wanted to participate in rap battles. She rap battled and won. Intrigued by how well she did, the response from the crowd, and the potential she had, Tofamba’s interest in music continued to build. Another push to fully pursue music came when she made a friend on Facebook who convinced and encouraged her to do so. Tofamba continued to nurture her musical talent over time.

Four more years would pass before Tofamba met Blay Kasa, a podcaster and creative director, in April 2021. Impressed with Tofamba’s unique sound and look, Kasa quickly introduced her to AWWYAS, a record label and event organising team based in Ghana.

Tofamba’s talent and charisma spoke for themselves and on the 31st of August 2022, she was officially signed to AWWYAS. Under her new label, Tofamba is presently working on her debut single set to be released this month.

Through hard work and undeniable talent, Tofamba steps closer to her dreams each day and has no plans of slowing down.

Kofi Bruce – The Hottest Talking Point In Palmwine Music

Kofi Bruce – The Hottest Talking Point In Palmwine Music
Kofi Bruce – The Hottest Talking Point In Palmwine Music

It’s a rarity to find a young musician pursuing a genre of music considered “old” in the midst of more popular and commercially viable genres.

For Kofi Bruce, dabbling in the genre of palmwine music – the old genre- goes beyond a matter of interest. It is an attempt to help revive  the popularity of palmwine music  and also, express his musicality through relatable and  exciting art of storytelling.

The significance of palmwine music to modern african music from the western belt of Africa can not be downplayed.  The continuous popularity of afrobeats and highlife music genres across the continent has, at its very foundation, palmwine music.

ABOUT KOFI BRUCE

Kofi Bruce is a Ghanaian singer, songwriter, producer born and raised in the port city of Takoradi, in the Western Region.  He is also an instrumentalist with the Afrikyewa (Thumb bell) as his instrument of choice.  Growing in a household where Ghanaian highlife music was predominantly played, the cultural ethos of the genre was, unconsciously, supplanted in him at an early age. In his teenage years, Kofi Bruce fell in love with palmwine music. The melodies, minimal instrumentation and  intriguing storytelling of the genre were irresistible to the aspiring musician.  These elements have been prevalent in his music.

CURRENTS PROJECTS

Kofi Bruce has released three songs in recent times. The songs, though different from one another in sound and tempo, are held together by a central story as expressed on his singles “Aketesia”, “Martha Martha” and “Philomina”.

The song  “Aketesia”, (young lady in his native language of Fante) explores an oldman’s reflection of his youthful years with women. The song talked about how Aunty Mary’s daughter, takes an old man down the memory lane with her flirtatious stroll around the house .

Leaning back in his favourite chair, he stares into space as he recollects his youthful years when women found him irresistible (a ladies man). It was rumoured that he was responsible for Martha’s pregnancy hence the sng title Martha Matter.

On his recent release “Philomina”, Kofi Bruce delivers a tale about this very unassuming church lady  who was hell-bent on keeping him to herself. The two shared great memories together during their flinging moments. The only problem was he was a married man. As he brode over the past, the smile on his face slowly fades  as he recalls how difficult it was for him in and out of the church.

Kofi Bruce is determined to help revitalize the genre of palm wine music through the release of his upcoming EP, “Tappers’ Joint” and a series of lined-up live music experiences. The rich musical tradition that stalwarts like Agya Koo Nimo had nurtured, protected, and exported must be upheld by a new generation. Kofi Bruce is swimming his way to the forefronts of palmwine music.

She occasionally paused to interact with her fans and affirm that she is the finest female musician in Ghana currently — and of course she has obviously earned the bragging rights.

Aside from Wendy Shay who was the headliner on the night, she had the support of some of the top-rated musicians in Ghana and her colleagues on the night.

Pat Thomas pulls big surprise on Shegah at Family Party
Pat Thomas pulls big surprise on Shegah at Family Party

Legendary Ghanaian Highlife Musician, Pat Thomas, swept Shegah off her feet when he appeared at her Family Party held on December 24, 2022.

The annual party held my Shegah is an occasion where the Veteran Ghanaian Hiplife/Dancehall Singjay throws a lavish party for her family, friends, colleague artistes and media.

Shegah pulled the same fête on Christmas Eve last year amidst solid live band from Ramblers Vibes Band.

The annual event powered by Magic Records pulled together Veteran Ghanaian Highlife Singer/Business Man Obiba Sly Collins, Kamelyeon, Danny Erskine, Elorm Beenie, DJ Bosco, DJ Toxic, rising Singjay Akylah, among other well meaning faces.

About Shegah:
She is a Ghanaian Singjay and Business Woman. Born as Mildred Hansen.

Shegah, born to the late Highlife Legend, Jerry Mark Hansen of blessed memory, her father was the founder of the Ramblers International Band.

Music runs through her family and this manifested when she established the first female Hip-life group in Ghana in 1995 called Triple M — Mildred, Mercy & Monica. Shegah gained a lot of mainstream attention when they released the popular track “KOTI”.

She would later breakaway from the group to pursue her solo career. Then began a solo career and didn’t give up on music. For this reason she worked with most of the hit making artistes at that time like Praye, Tony Harmony, Castro, Mzbel, Reggie Zippy, Yaa Pono, and many others.

With the change of music trends in Ghana which affected most pioneer musicians, Shegah decided to hibernate and rebrand her music from hip-life to reggae/dancehall which is the trending genre in Ghanaian music. Shegah’s hit ‘Dem Marking Time’ went straight in to the UK Reggae Chats at No.6 in 2018 and Dem Marking Time won Best Music Video of the Year at NELAS 2018. In addition to that her hit song Big It Up won Best song of the year at DBE Music Awards UK. Shegah has been honored with Outstanding Achievement in Music at Panache 2018 in UK.

The African female artiste recently celebrated her life in music with other top entertainers from the UK for a very successful 2018. The dancehall diva is bursting into Nigeria music industry, introducing one of her hit track audio/video titled “MURDER”, featuring Samini and Jupitar.

River Jamboree was an opportunity for people who sought to escape the hustle and bustle of the cities to catch the cool breeze of the Volta River at Volo.

The event provided a serene and cozy environment as patrons enjoyed good music, boat ride, camping, dance and local food, bonfire and network sessions.

Tents were rented out to attendees and also for those who wanted to have a feel of how Christmas is celebrated in the villages, there was what is known in Akan as ‘bronya dan,’ a hut made of palm fronds, palm leaves and in some cases grasses.

River Jamboree 20221

Another side attraction was a display of indigenous Ghanaian culture through music, food, dance and fashion.

Prior to the event, the Head of Production, Jonilar, said that aside from the fun aspect of the River Jamboree, they also sought to use the platform to drum home the need to protect our river bodies.

“There is a reason we chose to have the programme along the river. We aim at encouraging people to take good care of our water bodies. It is sad that we are fast losing our natural resources including water bodies. We can only use platforms like this to drum home the danger we cause ourselves when we continue degrading our environment, he said.

Some of the people who graced the 2022 River Jamboree include Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for the North Tongu in the Volta Region of Ghana.
