Friendship between musicians often materializes in collaborations. This is clearly evident on one of the most beautiful pairings from Ghana in the last year, “Africa Till I Die” which grew out of the friendship between multiple GRAMMY nominee Rocky Dawuni and Ghanaian musician Kyekyeku. The brand new video for the track premieres today on Pan African Music.
According to Kyekyeku; ‘’I first heard Rocky in 1997 when his monster hit “In Ghana” was on constant rotation on the radio. It wasn’t until 2007 at the Labadi Beach Hotel on the occasion of the 40th Independence Celebration of Ghana where Rocky held his annual “Rocky Dawuni’s Independence Splash” concert that the two met for the first time.” Moving forward to 2022, at a concert at +233 Jazz Club, Kyekyeku invited Rocky on stage for an impromptu jam on one of his songs. After the concert, it was clear that they had finally found a groove and inspiration for a song to work together on.
After the chaos of the last few years, it became even more evident that a good place to visit and spend time was within Africa. The video was filmed in France and Ghana focusing on the dreams of Kyekyeku in conversation with Rocky on an old phone toy that you still see children playing with in the streets of Accra. It is evident that in those cold empty French streets Kyekyeku dreams to go over the Atlantic and join Rocky in Ghana as he performs with his band and enjoys the sunny weather, bustle and energy of Accra. The music video for “Africa Till I Die” was shot by Slingshot who has worked with Rocky on a number of videos including his most recent GRAMMY Nominated song “Neva Bow Down.” Slingshot states “this video seeks to depict Africa and its beautiful people in its own light, its own words and its very own story and not one portrayed by the skewed perception of the mainstream media of the west.”
Kyekyeku like Rocky who both call Ghana and “the west” their homes could tell first-hand the joys of living in Africa; the immense beauty, the energy and resilience of her people, success and positivity that abounds. “We need to talk about that side of Africa a lot more, sing more, paint more.” Kyekyeku states. This then became the theme of “Africa Till I Die” a song that takes one into a deep and profound ballad Highlife groove. In the song, Africa stands unperturbed by the frequent negative images.

Plus the line “no where cool’’ which refers to the wars in Europe, Middle East as well as the general dissatisfaction with daily living in many nations. As a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for the Environment for Africa, Rocky Dawuni has traveled to many nations and attests first hand from his encounters that indeed all life begins in Africa. ‘“People wey I dey meet, places wey I dey go, na ibi you be the mother, Mama Africa” which he sings in Pidgin English on the track.

The St. John’s Old Boys Association’s North America Chapter comprises former students of St. John’s School in Sekondi, Ghana, who are currently residing in Canada and the United States. In recent years, the Association has organized its annual conventions in different cities across the United States, including Houston, Texas, Atlanta, Georgia, Washington, D.C., Providence, Rhode Island, and most recently, Dallas, Texas.
The attendance of members residing in North America and other regions of the world is crucial for the success of the annual convention.
After graduating from St. John’s School in 1983, Shasha Marley, who was a prominent member of the St. John’s Boys School Matthew Chapter 5 Band, pursued a career as a professional artist. St Johns Senior High School History
St. John’s School is an all-boys second-cycle Roman Catholic school located at Sekondi in the Western Region of Ghana. It is one of the best senior high schools in Ghana and the best in the region.
The present curriculum falls within the Senior High School system in Ghana, with overall oversight by the Ghana Education Service. Old Boys of St. John’s School are affectionately called Old Saints. The Old Saints Fraternity includes some of the most notable and prominent men in the country.
Old boys include award-winning Ghanaian journalist, communications expert and social entrepreneur David Ampofo, Dr Frank Abu former minister of Mines and Energy, former Chief Executive of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Dr. Felix Anyah, M.K Onnomah, Ghanaian Politician and the late Major Maxwell Adam Mahama, Shasha Marley and a whole group of prominent and notable alumni.
The origin of St. John’s School can be traced to an English Churchman who came to the Gold Coast in 1933 from Nigeria where he had been the General Manager of Catholic Schools. He discovered to his dismay in the Gold Coast that the Catholic Church which had been a fountain of education for centuries elsewhere had not catered for Second Cycle Institutions in the country. He, therefore, worked tirelessly to found St. Augustine’s College in Cape Coast in 1936. This man of vision and courage was the late Archbishop W. T. Porter of Cape Coast.
The Second World War fizzled out all arrangements for overseas financial aid and staffing for other schools and colleges. However, the Government’s Accelerated Education policy of 1951 to cater for the educational needs of Middle School Form 4 leavers after their Primary School Education spurred on the Church to establish a number of Catholic Secondary Schools in the country in 1952. Bishop Herman College in Kpando, Volta Region, Opoku Ware School in Kumasi, Ashanti Region and St. John’s School in Sekondi-Takoradi, Western Region, were all established by the Church to meet the needs of the numerous Middle School leavers whose future looked quite bleak.
The Government took on the church’s challenge and also established the following schools: Keta Secondary School in the Volta Region, Dormaa Secondary School in the then Ashanti Region and Fijai Secondary School, Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western Region
St. John’s was founded as a private Secondary School by the Roman Catholic Church on 29 January 1952. It was the first Secondary School to be established in the Western Region and was named after Rev. John Beenker of the SMA Society who shortly after assuming the post became seriously ill and had to return to Holland where he died, and so Rev. Father Francis Kwamena Buah who was pursuing his postgraduate studies in Cork University Ireland was recalled to head the school. Before his arrival, however, Rev. Father Donelley, SMA, temporarily held the fort.
The school started with three masters, Rev. Father F. K. Buah, Rev. Father Donelley, Mr. John Quansah and 47 students at St. Paul’s Catholic Primary/Middle School, Anaafo Sekondi, in two temporary classrooms.

Geoge Krown, known for his vocal prowess and gospel singing credentials, released M’aye Nhyira on Friday, May 19, 2023. This is George Krown’s second single in 2023 after his numerous songs in the gospel circles for years now.
M’aye Nhyira is taken from the Akan Palarnce which translates as ” I am Blessed” in the English dialect.
George Krown spoke to us on the release of the song and provided details of the new hit single M’aye Nhyira. The singer explained the basis of the lyrics and the relevance of the tune.
He said :
M’aye Nhyira (I’m Blessed) is an inspirational song that touches on the protection of God over our lives in sickness and health. The song also expresses the abundance of grace and blessings God has bestowed on us as his children. The most fascinating part is when I sang in
Igbo. Igbo is a language of a section of the people in Nigeria.
“The Lord will walk with me, I am a winner whether he is at my front or back. The walk may be at the top or beneath, but I am still a winner. He is a God who does good and has said it will be well with me. I am blessed who can make a mockery of me, I am a very rich and wealthy person. That’s who I am going to be”.

Born in June, Ewuraabina Everett pursued a career in media at an early age by working with telecommunications giant Tigo, now known as Airtel/Tigo.
While at Airtel/Tigo she took on the role of becoming the brand influencer for Tigo NSAMQ and then went on to become the face and voice for Tigo Digi Trends.

Her immense expertise in the field was recognized within a short time and caught the attention of numerous media houses including EIB Network.
Ewuraabina was poached by Live FM to contribute on already airing shows, route 919 with Antoine Mensah and jam Afrique with Dj Isaac Cool as an entertainment contributor.
Unfortunately, her era was cut short as another opportunity came knocking so she had to join GhanaWeb as a news writer, producer and reporter.
